Agrobot_388Z wins the Sunday Million one week after $225k Red Spade Open score

Any number of great mathematical minds could explain why luck doesn't really come in streaks, but it's tough to argue against momentum. Confidence breeds confidence at the poker table and two of tonight's final nine were bursting with it thanks to recent scores. Two weeks ago, Slovakia's Epakfailer made the final table of the Sunday Million, outlasting a field of nearly 7,500 players. Tonight, he did it again. On it's own that's a seriously remarkable feat, but one of his opponent did him one better. Only seven days ago, Agrobot_388Z finished second out of over 32,000 players in the Red Spade Open. Although he missed out on the title, Agrobot_388Z came away with the lion's share of the prize pool, collecting $225,689 after a five-way deal. For most of us mere mortals, that's a once-in-a-lifetime score, but Agrobot_388Z doubled it tonight. That's right. Doubled it. This time, no deal was necessary as Agrobot_388Z won the Sunday Million outright, the $224,550 first-place prize pushing his eight-day total to a staggering $450,239.

This week's Million drew 7,485 competitors, the prize pool topping out at $1,497,000. 1,080 players earned a share of it with $224,550 set aside for first place. Twenty Red Spades were in the mix including Jake Cody, Andre Coimbra, ElkY, Humberto Brenes, Andre Akkari, Eugene Katchalov, and Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome. None of them finished in the money, however.

Blinds were up to 100,000/200,000 with ten players remaining. After Epakfailer opened for a min-raise to 400,000 and pilouface888 three-bet to 800,000, Ship It 2010 four-bet shoved for 4.93 million from the small blind. Epakfailer folded and pilouface888 called all-in for 3.4 million. Ship It 2010's T♠T♣ turned a set vs. pilouface888's 4♣4♥, sending him home on the final table bubble.

Ship It 2010 sails away in ninth

Short stack R_Caiaffa got his stack moving in the right direction when he took his A♠Q♦ up against Agrobot_388Z's J♣T♣ and doubled to 7.4 million. PAULMARCKO also got an early chip infusion after getting his stack in preflop with pocket sixes vs. Ship It 2010's A♥Q♥. PAULMARCKO flopped a set and rivered sixes full of eights, doubling to 5.73 million.

After doubling up PAULMARCKO, Ship It 2010 still had a healthy 5.85 million. However, on the next hand, Ship It 2010 four-bet shoved with A♠K♦ and Agrobot_388Z called with 5♠5♣. Agrobot_388Z's pair held up and Ship It 2010 was suddenly on the rail in ninth place ($11,601.75).

OneTime1Time snaps off AA

Agrobot_388Z widened his chip lead even further, moving up to 25.7 million before he picked up A♠A♦ and smooth-called OneTime1Time's opening min-raise. The flop came down 6♠3♦2♣ and OneTime1Time continued for 777,777. Agrobot_388Z called. The turn was the T♣ and OneTime1Time fired another 1,257,913. Again, Agrobot_388Z smooth-called. The river paired the board with the T♥ and OneTime1Time shoved for 4.72 million. Agrobot_388Z practically beat him into the pot, only to watch OneTime1Time roll over Q♦T♦. Agrobot_388Z's aces snapped off, he fell to 18.2 million while OneTime1Time doubled to 15.6 million.

PAULMARCKO exits eighth, R_Caiaffa out in seventh

Back down to 3.3 million in chips, PAULMARCKO picked up A♠8♣ UTG and open-shoved, only to run into Agrobot_338Z's Q♦Q♠. PAULMARCKO did not improve and exited in eighth place ($17,964.00).

PAULMARCKO's elimination left greenrizla as the short stack with 2.94 million. Holding pocket threes UTG, greenrizlo open-shoved and R_Caiaffa reshoved from the button with A♣J♥. Greenrizla's baby pair held up on the Q♥Q♣5♠9♦8♦ board, good for a double-up to 6.7 million. R_Caiaffa was left with only a million in chips with the blinds up to 200,000/400,000. Two hands later, greenrizla finished off R_Caiaffa in seventh place when his K♥8♣ rivered a king-high straight.

Epakfailer eliminated in sixth

Epakfailer had been relatively quiet until now, but with the action folded to him in the small blind, he moved all-in for 4.3 million with K♥9♣. Ysjah called all-in with A♠5♦ in the big blind and rivered two pair, the board finishing 8♠8♥3♣4♥5♠. Ysjah doubled to 6.55 million while Epakfailer fell below a million. Five hands later, Epakfailer's remarkable run came to an end. Nearly half his stack committed in the big blind, Epakfailer called all-in with 4♦T♦ vs. Agrobot_388Z's A♦5♦. An ace hit the flop and Epakfailer was out in sixth place. Add the $46,407 Epakfailer earned tonight to the $150k and change he banked in the four-way chop on October 27th and you have a three-week Sunday Million haul totaling $197,282.95.

Greenrizla out in fifth, Essa_mania falls in fourth

Ysjah picked up pocket kings a few hands later and doubled through Agrobot_388Z, unfortunate enough to pull 9♦9♣ on the same deal. However, Agrobot_388Z recovered those chips in short order. OneTime1Time opened for a min-raise to 1 million and greenrizla three-bet shoved for 7.11 million with K♥Q♣ on the button. Agrobot_388Z reshoved 10.1 million from the small blind and OneTime1Time folded. Agrobot_388Z's A♦A♠ held up this time and made a wheel on the 5♦2♣2♦3♦4♥ board. Greenrizla was eliminated in fifth place, taking home $61,377.00.

Ysjah was the short stack four-handed, holding 6.8 million while his three opponents sported stacks between 21 and 26 million. Although Agrobot_388Z picked up K♣K♥ and was poised to knock him out, Ysjah's A♥9♣ flopped an ace and Ysjah doubled to 14.6 million.

Essa_mania lost most of his chips to OneTime1Time. In a three-bet pot, OneTime1Time c-bet 2,222,222 on the Q♠8♣7♠ flop and Essa_mania called. The turn came the A♠ and OneTime1Time check-raised all-in, leading Essa_mania to give up his hand. Down to 8.1 million, Essa_mania open-shoved with A♠7♠, but ran into Agrobot_388Z's A♣J♦. Agrobot_388Z's dominating hand held up and Essa_mania hit the rail in fourth place, collecting $79,341.00.

Time's up for OneTime1Time

As three-handed play commenced, Agrobot_388Z led with 26.7 million. OneTime1Time was close behind with 25.9 million and Ysjah held 22.1 million.

Ysjah soon tangled with OneTime1Time, who opened for a min-raise to 1.6 million on the button. Ysjah called from the big blind and they saw a K♦T♦7♣ flop. Ysjah check-called 1,234,567, then checked again when the 5♠ hit the turn. OneTime1Time checked behind. The river was the 3♦ and Ysjah checked a third time. OneTime1Time bet another 2,345,678 and Ysjah called, revealing J♥T♥ for second pair. OneTime1Time was bluffing with 2♥6♠ and Ysjah raked in the 11 million pot, boosting his chip count to 30.1 million. OneTime1Time fell to 16.5 million.

Two hands later a preflop raising war broke out between Agrobot_388Z and Ysjah. Ysjah min-raised to 1.6 million, Agrobot_388Z three-bet to 3,555,555, and Ysjah came over the top for 6.52 million. Agrobot_388Z five-bet shoved for 29.4 million and Ysjah relented, the 22.9 million pot landing with Agrobot_388Z. Agrobot_388Z moved up to 36.6 million while Ysjah fell to 23 million.

A couple of orbits later, Agrobot_388Z four-bet shoved pre flop for 40.3 million and OneTime1Time called all-in, revealing A♣7♣. Agrobot_388Z's pocket sixes won the race, the board running out T♣3♦2♣4♠K♥. OneTime1Time was out in third place, $119,760.00 headed his way.

Ysjah went to work erasing the 3 to 1 chip defect, opening for a min-raise to 2 million. Agrobot_388Z shoved and Ysjah snap-called, revealing A♥A♠. Agrobot_388Z's A♣2♥ went up in flames on the T♥6♣3♥K♠9♥ board and Ysjah doubled to 25.4 million.

Only six hands later, Ysjah opened for a min-raise to 2 million and Agrobot_388Z shoved from the big blind. Ysjah called, his A♦5♣ dominated by Agrobot_388Z's A♠T♥. Although Ysjah outflopped Agrobot_388Z by hitting top two pair, Agrobot_388Z caught running hearts to make a queen-high flush and locked up the win.

Congratulations to our newest Sunday Million champion Agrobot_388Z on an incredible run. He banked $224,550.00 for the win tonight, bringing his eight-day total to $450.239. Kudos are also due to Ysjah, who went from the short stack with four to go to runner-up, good for $165.223.89.

Homanga comes from behind for win in gigantic Sunday Warm-Up field!

This weekend was a huge one for PokerStars, with the NAPT Venetian going on, the EPT Copenhagen wrapping up, and more exploded guarantees in the Sunday major tourneys. But it was the phenomenal 40 Billionth Hand promotion that drove the action online this week. This week's Sunday Warm-Up drew a tremendous field of 5,341 players, creating a prize pool of $1,068,200. The top 765 players took home a piece of that prize pool, with the lion's share going to cumicon, who held a dominating chip lead when a four-way deal was struck. Thanks to his chip lead at that point, cumicon took home over $128,000, while eventually finishing in 3rd place. Our champion homanga, meanwhile, came from one of the shortest stacks when the final table kicked off to claim a final prize of $111,006.50.

It's not often that the final table bubble corresponds to break time, but that's exactly what happened this week. The players came back from break for just a couple of hands of bubble, then the final table was set. The chip stacks looked like this when the final table kicked off -

After the final table bubble burst, it took just one hand for the field to be reduced to eight. Intervntion opened for a raise from the button with 5♠-5♥, and polpolpol woke up with K♥-K♣ in the small blind. Polpolpol made the call for the last of his stack, but watched his huge favorite turn into a huge dog when the flop came down J♥-5♦-8♥. The 4♥ on the turn gave polpolpol a flush draw to stay alive, but the Q♠ on the river was no good, and intervntion sent polpolpol packing in 9th place ($8545.60).

Alexuuus quickly followed polpolpol to the rail, busting in 8th place just moments later. On the short stack and in late position, alexuuus shipped it all in when the action folded around to him in the cutoff with J♣-8♣. Cumicon had a dominating chip lead and the big blind, so he made the call with K♦-9♠. The flop was right in cumicon's wheelhouse as it came down K♠-3♦-5♦. The J♥ hit the turn to give alexuuus a little hope, but it wasn't enough, as the 6♠ came on the river. Alexuuus picked up $13,352.50 for his 8th-place finish.

Play continued 7-handed for a while until cumicon decided it was time to send another opponent to the rail. This time it was intervntion, busting in 7th place for $24,034.50. Intervntion raised preflop from early position, then snap-called when cumicon moved all in over the top from the big blind. Intervntion was in the lead when the cards were revealed, with J♣-J♠ to cumicon's K♦-T♥. The players traded places promptly on the flop, though, as it came down 3♣-K♠-Q♥. The 7♥ on the turn was no help to either player, and when the A♣ came on the river, intervntion's run was over.

Skryll was next to fall, finishing a respectable 6th place thanks to a coin flip gone the other way. ANIMAL5050 raised preflop with 8♦-8♠, and Skryll moved all in over the top with A♣-9♥. ANIMAL5050 made the call, then made a set on the 9♠-8♣-3♦ flop. Skryll needed to catch perfect running cards to stay alive, and when the J♦ hit the turn, he was drawing dead. The river was an irrelevant 4♦, and Skryll headed home with an extra $34,716.50 in his virtual pocket.

Another coin flip, another victim, could be the story of the night as cumicon claimed another victim, busting bigbear17 in 5th place ($45,398.50). The players traded raises back and forth preflop until all the money was in the middle, and bigbear17 tabled T♣-T♠ to cumicon's A♣-J♦. The flop pretty much ended all speculation when it came down 9♦-K♠-J♥. Bigber17 needed a queen or a ten on the turn or river to stay alive, but when the rest of the board ran out 5♠-2♦, the field was down to four. The last four players took a brief break to discuss a chop, and after some wrangling agreed to a deal that guaranteed big payouts to all four players.

Chip leader cumicon locked up $128,006.50, while second-place APerfectGent nabbed a guaranteed $109,006.50. Homanga rounded out the six-figure club at $101,006.50, while fourth-place ANIMAL5050 took down $92,006.50. This deal left $10,000 to play for, so the four survivors took a brief moment to congratulate each other, and then re-entered the fray.

As often happens once a deal is struck, the all-ins came fast and furious once the details had been hammered out. It was just a few hands into four-handed play when homanga raised enough from the small blind to put ANIMAL5050 all in with a call. ANIMAL did indeed call, and was slightly ahead with A♣-4♦ to homanga's K♣-J♠. The flop helped neither player as it came down 6♠-8♥-9♣. Homanga was behind ANIMAL's ace-high even when the turn brought the Q♠, but the T♣ on the river made the runner-runner straight, and ANIMAL5050 was done in 4th place ($92,006.50).

The player happiest about making a four-way deal had to be cumicon, because after a marathon three-way session, he ended up on the short end and still had the biggest payday of anyone. After losing a few tough hands to APerfectGent, cumicon's demise came at the hands of homanga. With only fumes left in his tank, cumicon moved all in preflop with Q♥-9♠, and homanga made the call with A♥-8♣, and promptly flopped trips on the 3♥-A♦-A♠ board. With his opponent drawing dead, homanga added insult to injury when he rivered quads on a final board of 3♥-A♦-A♠-6♠-A♣. It was pretty hard for cumicon to be upset, though, as he'd locked up $128K for a third-place finish!
Heads up play then ensued between APerfectGent and homanga, who were both mostly concerned with the TLB points at stake, even moreso than the $10,000! They battled back and forth for quite some time, before finally this hand happened.

APerfectGent opened with a button raise, and homanga made the call. The flop came down 9♣-9♠-K♥, and homanga led out. APerfectGent raised, and homanga once again flat-called. Homanga checked the 7♦ turn, and APerfectGent led out. Homanga called once again, then checked again on the 8♦ river. APerfectGent moved all in, and homanga called. APerfectGent showed 9♥-4♥ for trips, but was crushed to see homanga table J♠-9♦ for trips with a better kicker. After all that heads up play, it all came down to a kicker as homanga picked up an extra $10,000 and the title of Sunday Warm-Up champion!

PCA 2015: Party time!

After spending 10 days within the bubble of the PCA, away from the humdrum distraction that I once thought of as 'real life', it really feels like poker's in your veins. Take this dream I had last night, for example: Chris Moneymaker in a cowboy hat, waving glowsticks; Ole Schemion playing football in the middle of a crowded ballroom; George Danzer and Liv Boeree dancing together, Gangnam style.

Wait a second...what's this tattered wristband on my arm that smells of sweat and rum? Where did all these glowsticks in my bed come from? There's only one explanation: that was no dream, it was the PCA Players' Party.

The annual shindig has become a much anticipated part of the poker calendar, as hundreds upon hundreds of players celebrate a successful tournament series or - worst case scenario - a sunny but expensive holiday in Paradise. This year's incarnation was due to take place outside on the Royal Deck, but for weather reasons was moved inside to the spacious Grand Ballroom.

Any concerns over the venue change were quickly allayed as the ballroom - decked out in spectacular fashion and lit by the kind of giant lasers that a Bond Villain might reject as being 'a bit much' - welcomed hordes of smiling party goers of all ages.

Revellers were entertained by stilt-walkers, fire-breathers and even a full-on samba band, marching through the crowd and getting everyone into the spirit of the occasion. Food stands situated around the room offered cuisine from around the world, while the many (open) bars kept the Bahama Mamas flowing.

Breakdancers and limbo dancers set the pace, and the crowds dutifully followed suit, waving their glowsticks and flashing LED bracelets in time with the DJ's selections. Everyone from micro-stakes grinders to recreational players, high rollers, friends and children hit the dancefloor amid swirls of dry ice, laser beams and inflatable footballs. On me head, Schemion!

After the kiddies were all safely tucked up in bed, and literally everyone had had their opportunity to take a picture with Tito Ortiz (what a lovely fellow), the party moved on to Atlantis' hottest nightspot, Aura. Shapes were thrown, moves were busted. Great memories were made and then, speaking from personal experience, lost.

As the doors closed at Aura and the crowds dispersed to get their beauty sleep (personally, I try to never play a $10K turbo without at least 2 hours' rest), there was only one thing left to say:

"Same time next year?"

NBA Doesn't See Sports Gambling Trouble in Casino Ownership

Another NBA owner is set to also own a casino, something awfully common for a league supposedly scared of the corrupting power of gambling and sports betting.

The National Basketball Association was one of the several major US sports leagues to join the NFL in claiming that Delaware's plan to accept single-game sports betting would lead to potential corruption of the game. But allowing team owners to operate sports books and casinos  seems to be not an issue for the league.

Dan Gilbert of the Cleveland Cavaliers stands to be the latest NBA owner to be the owner of a casino, if an Ohio ballot measure passes. After testimony by disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy that gambling debts led to his involvement with criminal figures, it is surprising that the NBA is so quick to embrace gambling.

Perhaps the difference is in the money, and who gets it. OCA sports gaming analyst Ed Crumley says owners getting rich off casinos is in the NBA's interest, while the league makes no money off the neighborhood guy placing a sports bet.

The Maloof brothers own both the Palms Casino and the Sacramento Kings, running a sports book that takes NBA bets as a matter of course. Even without betting on Kings games, Crumley says, the Maloofs certainly are privy to information not available to the general public.

Harrah's Entertainment CEO and President Gary Loveman owns a piece of the Boston Celtics. The threat of gaming operators owning the sports books accepting wagers on the teams they control is dealt with by the NBA refusing Loveman the right to take Celtic plays; Harrah's accepts bets on the rest of the NBA.

"Obviously, the NBA does not really believe in the dangers of close ties to sports betting," says Crumley. "Instead, their actions indicate a decision to deny fans the pleasure of sports gambling just because there's nothing in it for them."
