Banning Online Casinos Not the solution for Problem Gambling Expert

The executive director of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling says treatment and education must be the tools used to stop compulsive gambling, not laws banning online casinos.

During the process a up to date interview, Carol O'Hare, the chief director of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, asserted that preventing ease of access akin to illegalizing online casinos won't end problem gambling. In a discussion with the Las Vegas Sun, O'Hare urged that education and treatment be considered the most efficient methods for coping with compulsive gambling, not legal bans.

"But problem gambling isn't going away because somebody puts it in a corner or puts the casino too far out of town in order that we don’t drive there or take it off the Internet," said O'Hare based on a matter about whether Internet gambling have to be illegal. "We tried prohibition on this country once. It didn’t work."

"We must continually be specializing in how can we mitigate the circumstances for these individuals, not how can we regulate the issue out of existence," continued the director.

O'Hare notes that the proportion of gamblers who develop problem gambling issues remains fairly constant, and reiterates the realization commonlyb held by mental health specialists and supported by scientic studies that compulsive gambling is another aspect of the mental disorders that form substance abuse issues.

The statements fly within the face of arguments presented by less trained volunteers and non secular anti-gambling leaders, who presume banning online casinos prevents the spread of problem gambling and the wear and tear it causes.
