MPC22: Wu hunting second dragon on Day 1C

NO Deposit bonus $43

"It looks like we might get more than the combined entrants from Day 1a and 1b today," APPT President Danny McDonagh announced to the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room early on Day 1c of the MPC22 Red Dragon.

And oh how close McDonagh was to being correct.

In the end the 271 entrants on Day 1c was just one player short of equalling the combined entrants from the first two Day 1 flights. That brings the total field to 543 so far and with Tuesday's Day 1d likely to eclipse Day 1c, you can expect the field to start nearing 1,000 total entrants.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, however, it's important to praise the exploits of the Day 1c players. Well, at least the 83 who survived and especially the end-of-day chip leader Raymond Wu.

Day 1c chip leader, Raymond Wu

Wu had a great day at the felt, becoming one of the first players to reach six-figures and ultimately going on to bag up 160,000. Wu finished off his day strong when he looked down at pocket kings and eliminated a short-stacked player who held J-8.

There aren't too many players who have more success at PokerStars LIVE Macau than Wu. He's posted almost US$450,000 in total tournament results over his career and a large portion of that amount has been right here in Macau.

In fact, Wu is a champion of this very event. He won the Red Dragon in 2010 and has made a good start at winning his second here in 2015.

Some of the others from Day 1c who will be hoping to stop Wu from achieving that feat include France's Romain Dours, the USA's Michael Shell, Australia's Jacob Martin and Team PokerStars Pro Kosei Ichinose.

Japanese Team Pro Kosei Ichinose is in contention

Ichinose made it through Day 1c with 42,800 in chips, which was great considering he was down to just over 10,000 at one point late in the night. Ichinose then found A♥A♣ and ultimately tripled up against K♠K♦ and 8♥7♥.

MPC22 - Day 1c Top Ten
Raymond Wu (Chinese Taipei) - 160000
Romain Dours (France) - 155000
Yong Zhang (China) - 120000
Chunhui Ji (China) - 118400
Yuanji Dai (China) - 117900
Michael Shell (USA) - 115600
Diego Gomez Gonzalez (Portugal) - 95500
Wei Chen (China) - 86800
Jacob Martin (Australia) - 85200
Lkhagvasuren Badamaarag (Mongolia) - 82900

Ichinose wasn't the only Team PokerStars Pro at the tables on Day 1c as he was joined by two-time Red Dragon champ and fellow Team Pro Celina Lin.

Unfortunately, however, Lin won't be joining Ichinose at the felt on Day 2.

Lin had a roller coaster day that went on the decline when she fell short after running pocket kings into pocket aces. From there Lin eventually moved all in for under ten big blinds with Q♦T♦ and ran into pocket jacks. No help and Lin was on the rail.

All the players who did survive Day 1c will now have Tuesday off before returning to the felt for Day 2 from 5:00pm local time on Wednesday. Before then, however, a new batch of players will hit the tables with the fourth and final Day 1 flight kicking off at 7:00pm on Tuesday.

There is no doubt Day 1d is going to be massive, so be sure to join us at the PokerStarsBlog as we continue to provide live updates of the MPC22 Red Dragon.

Tribal And Private Gaming Owners Square Off In Massachusetts

The Top Online Casino Gambling News Reporting Site Since 2002!

Published on April 28, 2014 by April Gardner

Steve Wynn is one of the gaming moguls that is attempting to win a license in Massachusetts to operate a casino. Competing against Wynn Resorts is Mohegan Sun, a tribal gaming company that also is fighting for the Massachusetts license.

This past week, the two gaming companies squared off in an issue over how the state plans to regulate gamblers' winnings. Currently, a provision is in place that would mandate that gamblers that win more than $600 sign a tax form and be subject to instant tax withholding on the winnings.

Steve Wynn, who operates casinos in Las Vegas and all around the world, believes the tax law will keep gamblers from playing in Massachusetts casinos. Wynn has been joined by MGM in their effort to have the regulation changed.

"It's functionally impossible to interrupt play after each hand to administer reporting or withholding," said Wynn Resorts, in a letter to regulators.

The gaming commission in Massachusetts has acknowledged that the provision could be troublesome for casinos and gamblers alike. They have also asserted that the goal is to regulate taxes on winnings in a similar fashion to the casinos in states in surrounding states.

"We anticipate that Massachusetts will follow the practices used in other states," said Department of Revenue Spokeswoman Maryann Merigan.

The federal standard allows for gamblers is lower than the current five percent tax on winnings over $600 that Massachusetts has in place.

Mohegan Sun, which operates a casino in nearby Connecticut, is also looking to win the Massachusetts gaming license, and they took a personal jab at Wynn for his stance on the tax issue.

"The rules were established long before any operator submitted license applications," said Mitchell Etess, Mohegan Gaming Authority CEO. "Steve Wynn apparently wants his own set of rules."

Online Gambling Receives Big Break Since House Panel Approval

NO Deposit bonus $43

For 5 years now, Rep. Barney Frank and his supporters have been trying to overturn the UIGEA bill. This bill made it illegal for banks and credit card companies to transfer funds to online gaming companies, therefore making online gambling even more of a risk. Yesterday marked a breakthrough in the online gambling world for US players and the groups trying to make things happen.

The next journey for Rep. Frank, who has been aggressively working to overturn this law, is to bring the recently approved legislation to the House Democratic Leadership. Inside the House Financial Services Committee, the legislation was voted 41-22 in support of legalizing online gaming within the USA. This would allow US players to gamble online and operators to offer gambling online without fear of prosecution.

One thing remains certain, any current violators of the UIGEA bill will face major difficulties in acquiring licences, if the ability to acquire one at all, to do business here in the US. Some of the largest online gaming sites are still accepting US players and ignoring US laws.

If you play on sites such as PokerStars.com and Fulltiltpoker.com, you may be playing with fire. Although these companies operate outside of the US, by still allowing US players to use their sites will not only directly affect their business, but the players as well. On a good note, many of Las Vegas Casinos that have steered clear, staying in compliance with the US government, are just sitting, watching, and waiting for the moment they can break on through to the online world.

Other than the current violators of the bill are major concerns regarding taxing, minors, and addiction. The taxing of online gaming sites can result in billions over the next 10 years. How will be able to detect minors gambling online? And more importantly, what state will become of families if addiction takes hold?

These questions any many more have been raised by Rep. Spencer Bachus of Alabama, stating “It’s incredulous that we would open up casinos in every home, every bedroom, every dorm room, IPhone, Blackberry, etc.” The truth is, it is already this way, putting this in the hands of a regulation will greatly benefit us all. US based companies can be regularly monitored and taxed much easier on American soil.

Wednesdays victory still comes with ties. Even though the bill is before the house, it will likely be be added into another bill in order to be passed.
