Blackjack, Table Gaming Coming to Pennsylvania CasinosALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

The Pennsylvania legislature passed a bill bringing table games like blackjack to state casinos.

The Pennsylvania legislature beat Governor Ed Rendell's announced deadline of Friday by two days in passing a compromise bill legalizing table games at state casinos. Gambling at the casinos will now add blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and poker to the existing slots.

Rendell had pushed hard for the bill, saying the budget had been planned with the expected $250 million from additional gambling revenue included, and that failure to pass the measure could mean layoffs of a thousand government employees.

The table gambling bill passed the House today with a vote of 103 to 89. The state Senate had passed it a day earlier, 28 to 22.

"This is a common sense, bipartisan piece of legislation that makes our gaming facilities more competitive, improves the public's confidence in gaming, raises money we desperately need in these tough financial times, and -- most importantly --helps put thousands of people to work in a brand-new industry," said Dante Santoni, chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee.

Under the new law, large casinos are permitted as many as 250 tables, while smaller resorts are limited to 50 tables.

One of the controversial aspects to the bill that was included in the final version is the legalization of casino markers for Pennsylvania casinos. Now, patrons can request and be granted credit on which to gamble, a provision some found to be troublesome with its potential for uncontrolled problem gambling.

2013 SCOOP Tournament Leader Board correctionALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino
^

During SCOOP 2013, there were four separate tournament leader boards: Low, Medium, High and Overall. An error was identified in the initial calculation of points awarded from High stakes tournaments with small fields, which affected the results of the High and Overall leader boards.

The advertised rules required that leader board points should only have been awarded when a player cashed. However, that rule failed to be enforced during the initial calculation of leader board points, and thus some players who played in certain high buy-in events were mistakenly credited with points they were not eligible to receive. PokerStars regrets the error and has taken steps to solve this instance, and to prevent it reoccurring.

As a result of this error, 'GeorgeDanzer' received extra points, and was mistakenly ranked in first place on the Overall TLB. After correcting the calculations, the actual winner of the Overall TLB is 'AceQuad' of Mexico. PokerStars has now corrected the leader board and contacted the two affected players: 'GeorgeDanzer' and 'AceQuad'. The Overall leader board prizes of the SCOOP Trophy and the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT10 Grand Final Package will be awarded to 'AceQuad'.

In addition, this error caused a re-ranking of some players who would have received prizes on the 2013 SCOOP High leader board. Specifically the following players have moved down from top 10 positions to non-prize awarded positions: 'blanconegro', 'ninototoroko', and 'ImDaNuts'. The following players have moved up into top 10 positions for the SCOOP High leader board and will now receive $1,050 WCOOP tickets for their efforts: 'ana marquez', 'AceQuad', and 'el_batong'.

Overall, ten events were affected by this calculation error. There were 51 players who were awarded points they did not earn according to the official posted rules. The leader board has been re-calculated with the corrected formula. The correction has only changed the prizes for the eight players listed above.

The ten affected events were the High versions of SCOOP 4, 6, 11, 12, 16, 27, 28, 30, 37, and 38. Because these events attract smaller fields, players were awarded points for highly ranked finishes, despite not cashing in the events. PokerStars has corrected the points calculation process to avoid this error repeating in the future. We apologise to the affected players for this error.

Players with any queries about this can email scoop@pokerstars.com

Online Casino Ban Implementation LoomingALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

Although it seemed a year was sufficient time to organize at least a delay of the implementation of the online casino ban, the UIGEA will be enforceable come December 1st, barring last-second action.

The year given to the US Treasury, Federal Reserve, and financial institutions to prepare for the implementation of the UIGEA online casino ban has barely a week to run, and apparently the law will go into effect. Despite requests by a number of lawmakers to delay the law against online gambling payment processing, there has been no move by Treasury officials to delay the activation.

Barney Frank not only is prominent among those asking that Congress be given extra time to consider the measure, which never was properly debated after being slipped onto a Homeland Security act, but he also has authored a bill extending the implementation back a year. But the bill hasn't been able to advance to committee while more pressing economic issues dominate.

The December 1st beginning of institution of the UIGEA hasn't impeded the Department of Justice from citing the law against online casinos and their payment processors, anyway. All year, US Attorneys under Eric Holder have been seizing bank accounts using the ban as part of the legal attack package.

The tightening of Internet censorship against online gambling comes at an ironic time, as President Obama speaks in China concerning the need for Internet freedom. However, Obama's DoJ has not reflected the values the President extolled in his campaign, during which Internet freedom was a top topic.

Frank's bill proposing regulation and licensing of online casinos may still render the UIGEA moot.  But the task to devise systems for financial companies to comply may leave lingering results, even if regulation is passed, as private companies choose to err on the side of caution if gambling becomes an even more confusing issue.

ANZPT7 Melbourne Day 2: Like father like sonALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!

If you've played at all on the Australian poker circuit, chances are at some point you've run into Australian Hall of Famer Leo Boxell.

'The Mechanic' as he's also known, Boxell has a poker resume dating back to the nineties. And to say that resume is impressive really wouldn't be doing him justice.

With four Aussie Millions gold rings, three Aussie Millions Main Event final table appearances, three APPT final tables and an APPT title among his over 1.3 million dollars worth of live scores it's easy to see why Boxell was inducted into the Australian Poker Hall of Fame back in 2012.

leo boxell.jpg

Australian Poker Hall of Famer - Leo Boxell

He was set to take a seat this week after satelliting his way into the Main Event, but a bad knee meant that Boxell couldn't sit down for more than ten minutes at a time. While this bad fortune meant 'The Mechanic' wouldn't have a shot at the last ANZPT title, it opened the door for his son Danny to step in.

Danny Boxell only has two live cashes to his name, the last of which dates back to 2011, but that hasn't stopped him from putting on a show here in the Main Event. It looks like poker ability could be genetic as Danny started Day 2 third in chips with 107,100 and has already accumulated more this afternoon.

danny boxell.jpg

Making waves this week - Danny Boxell

One of the first critical pots propelling the younger Boxell to his current chip position came yesterday during Level 4. Holding king-nine he lead out on a nine-high flop and after two callers, a third player moved all in for 20,000 in chips. Danny made the call and with the other two out of the way he discovered he was up against two overcards and a flush draw. He would ultimately fade danger and scoop the pot for a stack of 70,000.

While we missed the action on another crucial spot that Danny found himself in, his father was nice enough to fill us in on the details. Leo said it looked like his son was in trouble after finding himself part of a three-way all in with pocket kings against pocket nines and pocket aces. Chasing a king to stay alive he found one when the board ran out and tripled up to keep his tournament run alive.

With his Hall of Famer father here supporting him and with one of the big chip stacks maybe Danny Boxell can follow in his father's footsteps this week. We'll be watching to see if he can make it to the money tonight and push on to the final table to chase that $261,200 first place prize!

Online Casinos May Be The Answer to Gambling RecessionALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

The president of the American Gaming Association says his land-based casino membership may look closely at online casinos as an industry future when they meet in December.

President Obama may be telling people the recession is ending, but representatives of the Las Vegas casino industry think it will take several years for recovery for gaming companies. The opportunities presented by online casinos may even force the most hardened opponents of Internet competition to examine the fix possible in accepting the new wave.

Frank Fahrenkopf, Jr., president of the land-based casino organ American Gaming Association, told listeners at the Global Gaming Expo this week that he doesn't believe optimistic comments that the recession is over. He said the slowing decline experienced over much of 2009 is not the same as increases, and added the return to gaming figures pre-recession may be as much as four years away.

"Without a doubt, the gaming industry is facing a long road to recovery," Fahrenkopf said.

But the low overheads and ready customers available to online casinos is drawing attention from greater numbers in the land casino business. Harrah's has already prepared an online poker arm, using its World Series of Poker brand, to enter European markets in what many analysts consider a prelude to US activity.

AGA membership had opposed online gambling for years, but Fahrenkopf has noted for over a year now that the organization has changed its stance to neutral, as groups like Harrah's offset the hard-core rejection of Steve Wynn and others.

Now Fahrenkopf says the AGA may take up the topic in December. AGA support for Barney Frank's legislation to regulate online casinos may be the needed impetus to get Harry Reid behind the cause, giving the bill a real chance to pass.

Nevada Tells Licensed Casinos to Avoid Online GamblingALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

While Las Vegas gaming operators become eager to prepare for the opening of the US online casino market, state regulators are cautioning them to be wary.

Play Now at Slots Oasis! The Nevada Gaming Control Board is cautioning holders of state licenses to operate casinos not to get involved yet with online gambling projects. Board member Randall Sayre published on the board website a letter he wrote to an anonymous lawyer advising that clients be told to refrain from doing business with Internet casino operators.

Sayre went on to say that agreements between licensees and unlicensed online gambling sites are "inconsistent with the Nevada Gaming Control Act."

Currently, Harrah's Entertainment has developed its own Internet gaming branch, while several land-based casino companies are rumored to be in negotiations to partner with established online casinos in the event the US Internet gambling market is opened.

Sayre says ongoing relationships are being currently investigated by board regulators. He called a decision to avoid connections with Internet gambling by Nevada casinos "sound from both a state and federal perspective."

Harrah's gets online gaming software from 888.com, so that company is under review by the board as to whether it meets rules to do business with a licensee. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, this is the first time an online gambling operator who had accepted wagers from US residents may be cleared for Nevada business relations.

ANZPT7 Melbourne Day 3: From online anonymity to impressive live runsALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!

"Who is kennl?"

That was a common question among the online poker community, with forum posts inquiring about his identity dating back to 2009.

No one knew who was behind the infamous online avatar, but he had gained notoriety for crushing MTTs and giving regulars a hard time on the virtual felt.

pokerstars lobby.png

"Does he hang around PocketFives? The dude is an absolute monster" read one of the posts.

Tournament specialist Jesse McKenzie was in town this week for the Main Event and nice enough to fill us in a little more on kennl. He said that the online crusher was also in the field here for ANZPT Melbourne, and goes by the name Kenn Langcake. McKenzie also told us that this was Langcake's first time playing a live event.

"He's from South Africa here on holiday and this is his first live tournament. No one knew who he was back in the day, just that he was a beast online." McKenzie said.

Things started adding up when Langcake made a late charge yesterday to end up on top of the chip leaderboard. He would bust Minh Nguyen in the final hand of the night to bag up 440,500 at the conclusion of play.

Kenn Langcake.jpg

By all reports it seems that not only is Langcake one to watch at the tables, but also a genuinely nice guy. The same forum threads asking about his identity also attested to his friendliness at the tables. 2015 Aussie Millions final tablist Anthony Legg seemed to share similar sentiments.

"He's a family man and a really top bloke. I got the chance to go out with him the other night and he was buying tequila shots for everyone" Legg said with a laugh.

With only 31 players remaining here Langcake has already guaranteed himself a payday and will be hunting the $261,200 first place prize. We'll be watching him closely as the day progresses to see if he can make it through to our final seven. He is well on his way and one thing is for sure, McKenzie was right when he tweeted,

"Who is kennl? Y'all bout to find out."

No gold statue, but plenty of doubloons for Ramux in the Sunday Warm-UpALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for sunday-warmup-promo1.jpgWhile the Hollywood stars were walking the red carpet in Hollywood, the only fabric anyone was concerned about in the poker world was the final table felt at the PokerStars Sunday majors. This week's Sunday Warm-Up had 4,980 players, with a prize pool of $996,000. It was a fast and furious final table, with a six-way deal after a racecar start, but when everything was settled and the last cards were dealt, Ramux walked away with the win and the $139,163.73 first place prize money. Not only did he win the event, he held the chip lead when the deal was made, so he ended up with the lion's share of the cash as well!
warmup 3.7.10a.jpg
The final table kicked off in the most tumultuous action I've ever seen, with an elimination on each of the first three hands! On the very first hand of the final table, the short-stacked Shaaarrrp moved all in from early position with A♠-Q♣. Juda10 moved all in over the top to isolate, and when the rest of the table folded, juda10 showed 8♣-8♥ for the slight edge in the race. A slight edge was all juda10 needed, as the board came down K♠-5♦-J♥-4♣-9♦, and Shaaarrrp was done in 9th place ($7,968).

Before the rest of the table could catch their breath, all the chips were in the middle again as L C P open-shoved with K♦-Q♦. His only opponent was Ansgar2000, holding the charmed hand du jour - pocket eights. Ansgar's 8♣-8♦ was good enough to send another competitor to the rail, however, as the board ran out 6♥-9♠-5♠-J♠-3♦. After two hands, and two coin flips, there were two fewer players at the table as LCP collected $12,450 for 8th place.

But the frenzy wasn't over yet, as Ramux and gaffel tangled in one last huge pot to kick off the final table. Ramux opened for a raise with K♥-Q♥, and made the call when gaffel moved all in over the top with A♣-J♠. The flop brought a huge draw to Ramux, as it came down 3♥-3♠-7♥, giving Ramux the flush draw to go with his live cards. The flush hit the turn on the form of the T♥, leaving gaffel drawing dead. The river was the irrelevant J♣, and gaffel headed to bed with an extra $22,410 for 7th place in his bankroll.

With the breathtaking pace of the first few eliminations, the remaining six players decided to chat about a deal. The massive chip lead the Ramux had accumulated made the deal process difficult, but after some lengthy debate, a deal was reached that left $10,000 for the winner and locked up comfortable guarantees for everyone.

The deal locked up $129,163.73 for chip leader Ramux, while the second-place Ansgar2000 picked up $86,163.71. Hismoon nabbed $77,163.71 for his third-place stack, Method999 locked in $68,163.71, juda10 took down a guaranteed $66,163.71 and Feez0 grabbed $48,163.71 for his 6th-place stack. That left $10,000 for the eventual winner of the tournament, and play resumed.

After some jockeying for position at the final table and a few double-ups, the first big confrontation sent two players to the rail at once. Feez0 found himself on the extreme short stack and put his last few chips in the middle of the table as the big blind. Method999 raised from the button, and Ramux made the call from the small blind. The flop came down 9♦-K♠-7♥, and the rest of the chips went in the middle. Feez0 showed Q♠-4♠, Method999 opened K♥-6♦, and Ramux held the lead with K♣-T♦. The K♦ on the turn did nothing to change that, and when the river brought the T♠, it was all over for Feez0 and Method999.

Ansgar2000 was the next to fall, busting in 4th place at the hands of juda10. Action folded around to juda, who moved all in preflop with 6♥-9♥. Ansgar thought for a moment but finally called with A♣-8♣. Juda10 picked up a pair of nines on a flop of T♥-K♠-9♣, and that was enough to hold up and send Ansgar packing as the turn and river came down 7♦-Q♦ and thin the field to three.

It took a little while to whittle it down, and there were several double-throughs along the way to heads-up play, but finally juda10's run at the final table came to an end. After Ramux folded from the button, juda10 moved all in from the small blind with A♣-6♣. Hismoon made the call with A♦-9♣, and his lead extended with the flop of 4♦-A♠-9♠. Needing running sixes to stay alive, juda was drawing dead after the T♣ hit the turn. The river was a meaningless Q♦, and the tournament was heads up for $10,000.

last hand 3.7.10.jpg

Heads up play was a real battle, with multiple lead change and double ups before everything was finally settled. But in the end, it came down to who could catch cards when it counted most, and that was Ramux on the last hand. After crippling Hismoon, then doubling him up on back-to-back hands, all the money went in the middle preflop once again, but this time Ramux had the right ammo - pocket aces. His A♣-A♦ was firmly in the driver's seat against Hismoon's K♣-J♥. The flop brought more suspense as it came down T♣-7♣-Q♠, giving Hismoon the up and down straight draw, but the 5♥ on the turn was no help. Ramux just needed to fade an ace or nine on the river to win the tournament and the extra $10k, and when the river brought the Q♦, that's exactly what he did. Hismoon played a brilliant final table, even taking over Ramux's seemingly insurmountable chip lead a couple of time, but in the end he could only come away with second place.

Congrats to Ramux, who picked up $139,163.73 when all was said and done, and congratulations as well to all our final table players!

ANZPT Canberra Final Table Player ProfilesALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino
^

The PokerStars.net ANZPT Canberra has produced a field of 134 players for the $2,200 Main Event to create a prize pool of $268,000. The nation's capital and the Casino Canberra played host to three days of intense poker action, as our field has been reduced to our final table of nine.

It's a fantastic line up and should produce a thrilling finale. Here's a little more background about our ANZPT Canberra final table participants...

luke_edwards_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 1: Luke Edwards (PokerStars Qualifier) - Barwon Heads, Victoria

Luke Edwards is a 26-year old who works in the IT industry. He has been playing poker for five years after being inspired by none other than the great Tony Hachem. Luke is no stranger to ANZPT final tables after finishing second to Brotha D in last season's ANZPT Darwin event. Luke claims he is a nit who has been running like God, so he'll be looking to bring that form into the final table and rely on his previous experience to go one place better!

george_graziani_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 2: George Graziani - Sydney, New South Wales

George Graziani is a 38-year old motor mechanic from Sydney who describes himself as a "top bloke". We like top blokes so it's great to see this amateur reach his first major poker final table. He has been playing poker for four years after his mates got him into the game. George credits "solid play" as helping his reach this stage of the tournament and he will be keen to go all the way!

toothpick_tony_anzpt_canberra2.jpg

Seat 3: Tony Kambouroglou - Sydney, New South Wales

One of the cult heroes of Australian poker, Tony Kambouroglou is easily identifiable in any poker tournament by his trademark toothpick. A painter by trade, "Toothpick" has been playing poker for five years in both cash games and tournaments. With over US$200,000 in career tournament earnings, Tony has plenty of experience and support at today's final table as he strives to become the first toothpick to win an ANZPT title.

andrew_watson_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 4: Andrew Watson (PokerStars Player) - Wollongong, New South Wales

Another fine product of the 'gong, Andrew Watson is a 24-year old with an impressive online and live poker resume. Andrew is known for his runner-up finish in last season's ANZPT Queenstown event, but he's also one of the country's finest online poker talents. Under the moniker "higher wattage", Watson is currently ranked 3rd online in Australia and will be a real threat here on this final table.

james_broom_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 5: James Broom - Melbourne, Victoria

One of the most dangerously talented players in the country, James Broom is known for playing any two cards, anywhere, anytime. The 2008 Melbourne Championships Main Event winner has one previous ANZPT final table to his credit, a ninth place at the inaugural event in Adelaide back in 2009. Interestingly, this is the first tournament cash for Broom since that result, so he'll be keen to make this a big one. He has also final tabled the PokerStars Sunday Million and Warmup amongst an impressive online resume.

khiem_nguyen_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 6: Khiem Nguyen - Wiesbaden, Germany

Khiem Nguyen is the only International player on this final table. Originally from Germany, Khiem is currently based out of Brisbane as he travels around the world on a backpacking-poker adventure. Khiem has been playing for five years and has built up a very impressive poker resume that includes a 2010 EPT Germany side event trophy, a third place in the 2010 Master Classic of Poker in Amsterdam worth over €140,000 as well as a third place in the Macau Millions this April for HK$200,000. Khiem was the chip lead entering the final day of play and will be hard to stop!

xiuming_huang_anzpt_canberra2.jpg

Seat 7: Xiuming "Sammy" Huang (PokerStars Qualifier) - Bonner, Australian Capital Territory

Sammy Huang is the lone local on this final table after being introduced to the game six years ago by his friends. Sammy enjoys both No Limit Holdem and Pot Limit Omaha and has several tournament results to his credit including runner-up in the 2009 Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon for HK$268,465 in prize money. Sammy was inspired by the greats of the game in Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson and will be looking to replicate their greatness with victory here this afternoon.

tristan_bain_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 8: Tristan Bain - Melbourne, Victoria

Tristan Bain is another of the talented, young guns at this final table. At 25-years of age, Tristan has been playing poker for four years after previously working as a dealer at Crown Casino. Interestingly, he is coached by none other than James Broom. That explains his aggressive style which was highlighted by his shove with six-eight offsuit to burst the bubble late last night. Away from poker Tristan enjoys AFL and golf, and he has ambitions to one day play high stakes poker all around the world.

leigh_warne_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Seat 9: Leigh Warne - Melbourne, Victoria

Leigh Warne is a 33-year old salesman from Melbourne who is another from the James Broom brood. The good mates have been playing together for several years, with Warne normally found in the cash games up to $5/10NL. Warne did final table the Melbourne Championships final table back in 2006, but he'll be looking to go a little further than his sixth place finish on that occasion.
