April was a good month for online gambling in New Jersey, even though revenue from peer-to-peer poker play continues to represent a smaller chunk of the pie than it did last year.
Statewide, online gambling sites in the Garden State collected $12.7 million in April compared to $11.4 million in April 2014, reflecting an increase of 11.1 percent, according to figures released this week by state gaming regulations.
Revenue from online poker fell to just under $2 million from $2.6 million during the same month in 2014. That’s a 23.4-percent decline year-over-year.
The good news is that decline for online poker play in April was less than the contractions seen in March, February and January. All previous months had greater than 30-percent declines year-over-year for I-poker revenue. The poker market perhaps is beginning to stabilize.
Here are the year-to-date results:
Total online gaming revenue is up to $47.8 million from $43.1 million during the January-to-April period in 2014. Online poker revenue is down to $8.6 million from $12.4 million.
New Jersey began regulated online gaming in late 2013.
