Four of the largest card rooms within the Golden State have joined forces for the Southern California Poker Championships.
The action will kick off on the Gardens Casino in September before moving to the Bicycle Hotel & Casino in early October, the Hustler Casino in late October, and at last the Commerce Hotel & Casino in early November. Everyone who advances to day 4 will combine to create one field and play to a champion on Dec. 14-15 on the Bike. The SCPC final table will rotate from casino to casino every year.
“Los Angeles is the poker capital of the world,” said Bicycle Hotel and Casino Poker Manager Eveliene Dullaart. “I figured, why shouldn’t we have now the biggest tournament? I asked Mo Fathipour, our Tournament Director, how shall we pull this off and with the assistance of General Partner, Hashem Minaiy, we started approaching several other local casinos.”
“We started meeting with Marc Weinreich, Nancy Grout, and Cavin Quintanilla from The Gardens Casino; Daniela Cicu and Justin Hammer from Commerce Hotel and Casino; and Craig Kaufman from the Hustler Casino,” continued Fathipour. “I presented a structure to the opposite TD’s, Cavin from the Gardens, Justin from Commerce, and Craig Kaufman, Tournament Director from Hustler and together we prepare an event that we all know players are going to like! I’m so proud that it'll be a Quantum Tournament too. We're all really fascinated by working together and presenting a very special tournament. It’s going to be an enormous success.”
The $350 buy-in SCPC event, which features a fantastic 64 day 1 starting flights, is guaranteeing a whopping $3 million for the prize pool. The winner will take home a minimum payout of $500,000 and a brand-new Mercedes, so one can be on display at each casino in the course of the preliminary starting flights.
Each starting flight allows a single re-entry and players can play in as many flights as they’d like, even at other properties. The overall ten percent of every starting field will earn no less than $600. The general eight percent takes home $700, and the overall six percent get $800 at the side of a ticket to day 2. If a player manages to qualify for day 2 greater than once, she or he will even get a payout bonus, dependent on the casino.
Furthermore, the casinos have thrown in an additional incentive to play with a $100,000 freeroll scheduled Dec. 13 for the highest 50 point earners within the tournament’s duration. Players earn points on every occasion they register for an afternoon 1 starting flight, and further points for advancing to day 2.
Because the SCPC is a Quantum Tournament event, players too can skip day 1 altogether and buy-in on to day 2 for $4,500. Those players can be given a standard stack of 210,000 when the blinds are at 1,500-3,000 with a 500 ante.
The final 33 percent of every day 2 field will make at least $800. That’s along with any cash and bonuses they earn for day 1. The overall six percent of the day 2 field advances to the championship tournament on the Bicycle Hotel & Casino. The remainder 36 players will utilize the Action Clock by Protection Poker until a winner is determined.
