SLS Las Vegas To Open Tonight In the dark

SLS Las Vegas, formerly the Sahara, will open tonight at midnight.

“Style, Luxury, Service,” is what SLS stands for, when you were wondering.

The site, once home to the enduring Sahara, which was open from 1952 to 2011, fell victim to the financial crisis of 2008. A handful of years later, there may be new hope.

The firms that acquired the once financially troubled property are Los Angeles-based SBE Entertainment and San Francisco-based Stockbridge Capital Group.

The casino can have greater than 1,600 hotel rooms, 30,000 square feet of convention space and 80,000 square feet of casino gaming space. There'll be 80 table games and 800 slots, the latter of that are the primary moneymaker within the Silver State. Around 60 percent of gaming revenue comes from coin-operated devices, sometimes called slots.

A total of $415 million was spent at the renovation.

According to the Associated Press, SLS owners say they received 117,000 applications for his or her 3,400 positions. Las Vegas’ unemployment rate was 7.6 percent as of April.
