While most people in Melbourne were enjoying a drink and a barbecue for Australia Day, players in the Crown Poker Room were partaking in festivities of their own as they chased poker glory in this year's Aussie Millions.
All in all 335 players took their seats on Day 1c in a bid to win the Southern Hemisphere's most prestigious poker tournament and with the 180 entrants from Day 1a and 207 from Day 1b, we climb to a total of over 722. That makes this the fourth highest field in Aussie Millions Main Event history.
Leading those players into Day 2 will be Germany's Jens Lakemeier. He bagged up 175,000 at the conclusion of play. While today's flight did attract the largest field, it was our opening flight's James Obst who leads the charge into Day 2 tomorrow.
Lakemeier already has some impressive results to his name. The biggest of which saw him score $80,629 for runner up in the Poker EM High Roller Tournament. He also has an EPT Barcelona Pot Limit Omaha 5 card hi/lo title on his resume.
Before finishing on top Lakemeier navigated his way through a star-studded field this afternoon. Some of the others among the frontrunners include Dietrich Fast, Martin Jacobson, Fabian Quoss, Tony Dunst, and Chance Kornuth.
And while the internationals were out in force, so too was a strong Australian contingent. That group is currently led by Michael Wang with 165,200 chips, but also comprises Stevan Chew, Anthony Legg, Didier Guerin, Matthew Wakeman, Gary Benson, Rory Young, Alex Lynskey, and Daniel Neilson.

For the 190 survivors they'll join those who made it through Day 1a and 1b right back here tomorrow from 12:30pm local time for another day of action. Rumour has it that play will cease earlier than the Day 1 flights so players can take a break and enjoy the Aussie Millions Players Party.
