ANZPT6 Melbourne Day 2: Against the chances

How lots of you've ever taken a sickie? Perhaps it was a cold, rainy morning, there has been some tasty sport on TV, and also you had just a little a cough. It's ok, we aren't judging. I'm sure it happens to most. Some days you simply can't get yourself off the bed to stand the world.

Then there are the times where you actually are crook. You've gotten that important project to complete off, but your employers plead with you to stick clear of work in order for whatever contagious bacteria you're carrying doesn't infest all of the workforce.

That's what happens within the real world, however the poker world is just a little different.

There's no boss to inform you to stick home. You're the boss.

There's no duty of deal with your fellow workers. They are attempting to take your money!

And there is not any way on the planet your man flu goes to prevent you from the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event for the danger at a share of one million dollar prize pool!

Rain, hail or shine, poker players roll off the bed and rock as much as work day by day. There are not any days off and there is just no concept of sickies. And that is the reason why you regularly see a large number of coughing and sneezing within the poker site. It's unfortunate, but it's par for the course.

Even here on the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event, there are several players battling illnesses, but they're soldiering on courageously. They're already invested within the tournament, so that they are going to offer everything they need to win the $253,000 top prize.

One of these under the elements is Daniel Botta.

Two days ago, Botta was pretty chuffed to bag up the third largest stack within the room following play on Day 1a.

"I have no idea how I did that, I'm sick as a dog!" laughed Botta in between coughs.

Two days later and things haven't improved.

Last night Botta couldn't sleep and his ear was throbbing badly, so he thought he better get things looked at. A SNAPPY trip to the doctor the very first thing this morning discovered an uncongenial ear infection to head together with his flu.

A shot of antibiotics and infrequently an hour's sleep and Botta arrived here at Crown to take his seat for Day 2 of the ANZPT Melboune Main Event. So is his illness affecting his play?

"Clearly it hasn't helped me, I've dusted off 100,000 already," chuckled Botta just previous to the primary break of the day. A lot of those chips have headed to overnight chip leader Vincent Chua who's seated two to his left. The 2 have tangled in different big pots, one that saw Chua river a suite of fours to crack Botta's pocket kings.

That won't worry a peaceful Botta an excessive amount of. He knows what it takes to win a large tournament. Back in 2009, he took down the local Joe Hachem Deep Stack Main Event for a $100,000 score.

Despite a nasty flu and an ear infection, Botta is toughing it out courageously. It is the only way a poker player knows.
