China's Soccer Regulators Encourage Gambling Bans

The governing board of soccer in China says a crackdown on gambling and sport corruption within the country is most welcome.

Staying in step with government policy towards gambling, the Chinese Football Association released a press release giving its support to police efforts to stop gambling on matches within the country. The crowd says gambling ends up in match-fixing, and compared it to a cancer.

"Gambling and match-fixing are severe violations of Chinese laws... We must always resolutely stamp them out within the sport," stated the CFA on its website.

A statement this week from the deputy minister of the State General Administration of Sport told Chinese soccer players they might be banned for all times if evidence showed they'd gambled or helped fix matches.

China's government have been at pains the last several years to clamp down on gambling by the country's residents. Online gambling sites was blocked, and censors watch computer activity to catch illegal gaming.

Loopholes allowing border crossings for gambling purposes was eliminated, or even the permitted gambling visits to Macau casinos has been restricted in the course of the limiting of visa applications.

Police are currently conducting a big undercover operation to analyze possible match corruption and the influence of organized crime and gambling on soccer play.
