It's getting ugly, my friends.
With teams having already clinched playoff berths, teams well out of the quest and an overarching give star players some well-deserved late season rest, daily fantasy entries may finish up looking more like Summer League rosters at this point within the year.
Knowing which star players to depend on from here on out is literally a day-by-day proposition - as in, you will have to follow beat writers with added emphasis as they reveal which players are within the lineup on a given night, and which of them are drawing that dreaded DNP-CD.
In the meantime, listed below are this week's must-add FanDuel players (provided, of course, that they really play):
Tuesday - PG Russell Westbrook, Thunder (at Nuggets)
While Westbrook's scoring hasn't been as prolific versus Denver because it has against other opponents, he has found different ways to offer daily fantasy value - averaging 24 points, 10.7 assists and 7.7 rebounds in three meetings. He has also added seven steals and 4 3-pointers, further cementing his reputation as a Nuggets killer. Roster him with confidence and luxuriate in that sky-high floor.
Wednesday - PG Isaiah Thomas, Celtics (vs. Pelicans)
Finding an ideal elite value play is solely partly in regards to the player's skill set; the opposite significant factor is who that player is facing on a given night. And relating to Thomas, the matchup couldn't be better. The Pelicans are playing out the string with a patchwork roster, and do not have much hope of containing the Celtics' electrifying point guard. Thomas often is the top DFS play of the night.
Thursday - SG James Harden, Rockets (vs. Suns)
Harden is an obvious pick here given all the things working in daily fantasy players' favor. Not just is he a matchup nightmare against an over-matched Phoenix team, but with the Rockets fighting for a playoff spot, they'll need Harden to be their workhorse. A blowout is an opportunity here, but Harden can do good enough in limited action to warrant selection in all formats.
Friday - PG Kemba Walker, Hornets (vs. Nets)
Walker's torrid second-half scoring pace ebbed on the end of March, but he has responded by averaging 28 points through his first two games in April. Walker could be in search of a bounceback against Brooklyn after scoring just 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting of their previous encounter. With the Hornets seeking to climb the playoff ladder, expect a number of Walker on this one.
Saturday - PG Stephen Curry, Warriors (at Grizzlies)
Curry has said on record that he'll be gunning for 400 3-pointers this season - and once he gets close, he'll be launching 3s from everywhere. That would rather well happen on this one, because the Grizzlies can't possibly hope to contain him. With the soldiers still gunning for 73 wins and Curry seeking to reach an implausible personal milestone, the conditions are ripe for a DFS play.
Sunday - Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks (at 76ers)
No player has the next ceiling Sunday than the Greek Freak, who should lay waste to a Philadelphia team so that they can go down as some of the worst in NBA history. Antetokounmpo is off to a blistering start this month, averaging 26 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds in two April contests, and can see all of the court time he can handle against the woeful 76ers. Use him in all formats.
