EPT11 London: The view from the infield as Cody doubles up

With the best way things are going, if Jake Cody and Kevin Killeen reach the heads-up stage of this final table within the early hours of tomorrow morning, the stage will look something just like the infield after the Kentucky Derby. They've probably the most vocal supporters and drink have been taken. It has since been taken again. It makes for a colourful atmosphere at the rail--still as packed because it was five hours ago when play started, and it just found its voice again following a Jake Cody double up.

For his part Cody is the sleek operator. It will always has been his plan, from the instant he walked on stage all-casual-like, but he still wears his leather jacket, which must make him hot under the tv lights. Nevertheless it doesn't show. He looks calm and picked up and comfy along with his environment, even if finding pocket fours and moving his chips all-in.

Seconds later Artur Koren called with ace-king. News of those moments always takes a second to succeed in the rail ten feet away. Talk stops, heads spin around to have a look at the table, and the mental recalibration takes place, everyone looking for signs of these indicators that tell them whether this will likely be excellent news or bad. Who has the fours? Who has the ace-king?

With this established the shouting started-- "Four! Four!" --and suddenly we were at the golf course, only here, in place of it being about etiquette, it is a desperate bid to speak the poker Gods down from whim.

The flop came, flashing a king. Nevertheless it also brought a 3rd four for Cody. Cody didn't flinch. But his fans did. Well a few of them. The drinkers. They screamed and cheered with raised arms. For them this meant an extension of the thrill (although consolation drinks taste almost just like celebration drinks and also you usually have more energy to drink them). The opposite half, the non-drinkers, remained quiet, some anxiously covering their mouths, others chewing the corners in their handbags, wishing for anything at the board that might steer them past defeat for his or her man.

But like I DISCUSSED earlier, Cody was calm and in little question. The turn and river blanked Koren, who was left with a stack of largely blue chips. Cody meanwhile leapt back as much as about 4.5 million. That are meant to take quite a while to drink through and his supporters comprehend it. And at this time that makes them the happiest folk in town.
