Esfandiari Trying to Repeat At One Drop High Roller Event

Antonio Esfandiari became one of the most biggest names on the 2012 World Series of Poker last year when he won the primary annual One Drop High Roller No-Limit Hold'em event. The tournament produced the only highest first place prize within the history of poker, at over $15 million.

Fast forward one year, and Esfandiari is again seeking to make history. This time, the poker legend is calling to copy as champion within the One Drop event, and with only 26 players remaining, Esfandiari's dream is within reach.

Heading into the general day of play in a tournament that began on Wednesday, Esfandiari currently sits in fourth place, with 2,970,000 chips. Every player within the top five has over 2.5 million chips, but all are chasing the leader, Martin Jacobson, who currently holds 3,500,000 chips.

Esfandiari isn't the only big-name pro chasing the $4,830,619 first place prize money. Phil Laak is currently in 12th place, while Shaun Deeb sits in 17th, and Mike Sexton at 24.

The players will continue in the course of the dinner break later today, after which the tournament can be played to its conclusion once dinner is complete. The tournament was limited to 166 starting players.

In other WSOP action on Friday, Event #48 is with regards to reaching the general table. Of the 343 players that entered the $2,500, Limit Hold'em/Six Handed tournament, only 12 remain. Danny Le is the chip leader with 421,000. Danny Warchol is close behind, sitting just 4,000 chips off the lead. Marco Johnson (340,000), Maria Ho (291,000), and Juha Helppi (200,000), round out the highest five. Jon Seaman is the quick stack with 59,000 chips.

Four additional tournaments are set to start this weekend, including two of the bigger buy-in events. A $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em/Six Handed tourney begins today, and the coveted $50,000 Poker Players Championship begins on Sunday afternoon. The largest names within the game are all expected to join the Players Championship event.
